Energy Efficiency Rating

An Energy Efficiency Rating report rates how energy efficient the home is, and lists ways to improve the homes energy efficiency, to lower heating and cooling costs.

Energy rating assessments are prepared using data collected on site, which is then entered into a computer-based modelling package, FirstRate 4.06.

What is the Value of a Star?

The following table has been provided by ACTPLA: please note that it is a guide only. For a 150m² home, combined annual heating and cooling cost is estimated as follows:

0 Stars = $1,350
1 Stars = $1,090
2 Stars = $800
3 Stars = $640
4 Stars = $510
5 Stars = $400
6 Stars = $310

These estimates are based on the following assumptions:
Winter – gas central heating is set to 21oC for 3hrs in the morning and 6hrs in the evening
Summer – air conditioning is set to 25oC throughout the house
Occupants will adjust their blinds and curtains to minimise energy use; and windows and doors are shut during heating and cooling.
